History of Alkharafi Open Regatta

The Kuwait sea sports club has taken much care of the sailing boats sport since its foundation in 1965 .the head of the club at the time , Jassim Mohamed Abdul Mohsen Alkharafi took care of it as he was having his wonderful role in encouraging the sea sports and giving the chance to those who love to practice such sports. Along the time boards of management the KSSC tried to go on through fulfilling all the needs and using all the capabilities for these sports so the KSSC gave the chance to a national coach , provided the boats, tools, all the needs for the game and thus formed a distinguished team that participated in lots of local and international regattas.

The annual late Mohamed Abdul Mohsen Alkharafi open regatta is one the main activities carried out by the club each year. The head of parliament, Jassim Mohamed Abdul Mohsen Alkharafi is supporting this regatta which is considered one of the oldest and most distinguished local regatta. The sailing committee in the club expanded the regatta to let the gulf and the Arabian countries participate. They also decided ton have a rowing race as one of the activities of the regatta.

Autobiography of the late Mohamed Abdulmohsen Alkharafi

The late Alkharafi is one of the outstanding men of Kuwait. He had his own contributions and outstanding situations that effectively served his country, Kuwait. He helped in the progress of his country both socially and economically. He had his own charitable deeds and contributions.

Alkharafi had taken over several positions among which are:

- head of factories and corporations of Alkharafi.

- Head of board of directors of Kuwait National Bank.

- Vice president of the head of chamber of trade and industry of Kuwait.

- Vice president of head of promoting industry in the ministry of industry and commerce of Kuwait.

- A member of the gulf commerce and industry.

- A member of the educational council of Kuwait.

- A member of board of directors of Kuwait Airway.

- One of the founders and a member of the board of directors of Kuwait Oil Tankers Company

- One of the biggest contributors in the private sector and industrial, insurance, industrial, investment, service, food industries companies and banks.

- A founding member of the Kuwait Red crescent Association and a member of the Kuwait parliament

Alkharafi was born in 1919 in Kuwait and died on the 6^th of September 1993.
